With an all-out effort, Leões do Sul 53's Marcelinho Tinoco threw himself towards the right post 23 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Frank Capixaba, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hílton Britto got free with Marcelinho Tinoco in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Leandro Custódio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cido Lago in the 46th minute of the match. After the first half the score was level. Leões do Sul 53's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Guto Kleber in the 84th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Laranjais's goalie and right to Dário Porto. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Laranjais's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Laranjais would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
